- @X083@X05.@X0813@X03 NITROGLYCERINE
-
- @X08 Nitroglycerine is one of the most sensitive explosives@X05,@X08 if it is not
- the most sensitive@X05.@X08 Although it is possible to make it safely@X05,@X08 it is difficult@X05.@X08
- Many a young anarchist has been killed or seriously injured while trying to
- make the stuff@X05.@X08 When Nobel@X05'@X08s factories make it@X05,@X08 many people were killed by the
- all@X05-@X08to@X05-@X08frequent factory explosions@X05.@X08 Usually@X05,@X08 as soon as it is made@X05,@X08 it is
- converted into a safer substance@X05,@X08 such as dynamite@X05.@X08 An idiot who attempts
- to make nitroglycerine would use the following procedure@X05:@X08
-
- MATERIAL EQUIPMENT
- @X05 ________ _________
-
- @X08 distilled water eye@X05-@X08dropper
- table salt 100 ml beaker
- sodium bicarbonate 200@X05-@X08300 ml beakers @X05(@X082@X05)@X08
- concentrated nitric ice bath container
- acid @X05(@X0813 ml@X05)@X08 @X05(@X08 a plastic bucket serves well @X05)@X08
- concentrated sulfuric centigrade thermometer
- acid @X05(@X0839 ml@X05)@X08
- glycerine blue litmus paper
-
-
- 1@X05)@X08 Place 150 ml of distilled water into one of the 200@X05-@X08300 ml beakers@X05.@X08
-
- 2@X05)@X08 In the other 200@X05-@X08300 ml beaker@X05,@X08 place 150 ml of distilled water and about
- a spoonful of sodium bicarbonate@X05,@X08 and stir them until the sodium bicarbonate
- dissolves@X05.@X08 Do not put so much sodium bicarbonate in the water so that some
- remains undissolved@X05.@X08
-
- 3@X05)@X08 Create an ice bath by half filling the ice bath container with ice@X05,@X08 and
- adding table salt@X05.@X08 This will cause the ice to melt@X05,@X08 lowering the overall
- temperature@X05.@X08
-
- 4@X05)@X08 Place the 100 ml beaker into the ice bath@X05,@X08 and pour the 13 ml of concentrated
- nitric acid into the 100 ml beaker@X05.@X08 Be sure that the beaker will not spill
- into the ice bath@X05,@X08 and that the ice bath will not overflow into the beaker
- when more materials are added to it@X05.@X08 Be sure to have a large enough ice bath
- container to add more ice@X05.@X08 Bring the temperature of the acid down to about 20
- degrees centigrade or less@X05.@X08
-
- 5@X05)@X08 When the nitric acid is as cold as stated above@X05,@X08 slowly and carefully add the
- 39 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid to the nitric acid@X05.@X08 Mix the two acids
- together@X05,@X08 and cool the mixed acids to 10 degrees centigrade@X05.@X08 It is a good
- idea to start another ice bath to do this@X05.@X08
-
- 6@X05)@X08 With the eyedropper@X05,@X08 slowly put the glycerine into the mixed acids@X05,@X08 one drop
- at a time@X05.@X08 Hold the thermometer along the top of the mixture where the mixed
- acids and glycerine meet@X05.@X08 DO NOT ALLOW THE TEMPERATURE TO GET ABOVE 30
- DEGREES CENTIGRADE@X05;@X08 IF THE TEMPERATURE RISES ABOVE THIS TEMPERATURE@X05,@X08 RUN
- LIKE HELL@X05!@X08@X05!@X08@X05!@X08 The glycerine will start to nitrate immediately@X05,@X08 and the
- temperature will immediately begin to rise@X05.@X08 Add glycerine until there is a
- thin layer of glycerine on top of the mixed acids@X05.@X08 It is always safest to
- make any explosive in small quantities@X05.@X08
-
- 7@X05)@X08 Stir the mixed acids and glycerine for the first ten minutes of nitration@X05,@X08
- adding ice and salt to the ice bath to keep the temperature of the solution
- in the 100 ml beaker well below 30 degrees centigrade@X05.@X08 Usually@X05,@X08 the
- nitroglycerine will form on the top of the mixed acid solution@X05,@X08 and the
- concentrated sulfuric acid will absorb the water produced by the reaction@X05.@X08
-
- 8@X05)@X08 When the reaction is over@X05,@X08 and when the nitroglycerine is well below 30
- degrees centigrade@X05,@X08 slowly and carefully pour the solution of nitroglycerine
- and mixed acid into the distilled water in the beaker in step 1@X05.@X08 The
- nitroglycerine should settle to the bottom of the beaker@X05,@X08 and the water@X05-@X08acid
- solution on top can be poured off and disposed of@X05.@X08 Drain as much of the
- acid@X05-@X08water solution as possible without disturbing the nitroglycerine@X05.@X08
-
- 9@X05)@X08 Carefully remove the nitroglycerine with a clean eye@X05-@X08dropper@X05,@X08 and place it
- into the beaker in step 2@X05.@X08 The sodium bicarbonate solution will eliminate
- much of the acid@X05,@X08 which will make the nitroglycerine more stable@X05,@X08 and less
- likely to explode for no reason@X05,@X08 which it can do@X05.@X08 Test the nitroglycerine
- with the litmus paper until the litmus stays blue@X05.@X08 Repeat this step if
- necessary@X05,@X08 and use new sodium bicarbonate solutions as in step 2@X05.@X08
-
- 10@X05)@X08 When the nitroglycerine is as acid@X05-@X08free as possible@X05,@X08 store it in a clean
- container in a safe place@X05.@X08 The best place to store nitroglycerine is
- far away from anything living@X05,@X08 or from anything of any value@X05.@X08
- Nitroglycerine can explode for no apparent reason@X05,@X08 even if it is stored
- in a secure cool place@X05.@X08
